Mattel’s "Matchbox the Movie" Set to Release on Apple TV
Mattel’s highly anticipated film, Matchbox the Movie, is scheduled to premiere on Apple TV on October 9, 2026. The announcement was made during Apple TV’s press event for the Skydance Media production, alongside the release of first-look images.
The film features a star-studded cast, including John Cena, Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris, and Arturo Castro. Directed by Sam Hargrave, the movie promises to be an action-packed adventure that follows a group of childhood friends whose lives are turned upside down when Sean, played by Cena, a long-lost CIA agent, unexpectedly returns to their small town. His appearance thrusts them into a high-stakes international mission to save the world.
Additional cast members include Corey Stoll, Bill Camp, Danai Gurira, and Golshifteh Faranhani.
In addition to directing, Hargrave serves as an executive producer. The screenplay was written by David Coggeshall, with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Robbie Brenner, and Ynon Kreiz producing for Skydance and Mattel Films, alongside Jules Daly. Patrick Newall and Elizabeth Bassin are also involved as executive producers.
