George Clooney Stars in His First Super Bowl Ad at a Stunning Castle with a Surprising Director
George Clooney Makes Super Bowl Commercial Debut for Grubhub
George Clooney will make his Super Bowl commercial debut in a highly anticipated ad for Grubhub, scheduled to air during Super Bowl 2026 on February 8. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, known for his unique cinematic style, this marks Clooney’s first involvement in a national Super Bowl advertisement.
In the 30-second spot, which is Grubhub’s inaugural Big Game commercial, Clooney features in a dramatic setting—a lavish castle where an upscale dinner party unfolds. The ad captures the attention of guests enjoying a feast laden with takeout dishes, until the atmosphere shifts with the arrival of delivery fees.
“I was thrilled when they called and asked me to be a part of it,” said Clooney, speaking exclusively to PEOPLE. “When I heard Yorgos Lanthimos was directing his first Super Bowl spot for Grubhub, I knew it was a perfect collaboration.”
Clooney’s character intervenes at a pivotal moment, delivering the campaign’s key message: “Grubhub will eat the fees” for delivery and service charges on orders exceeding $50. This initiative addresses a significant concern for customers, as fees on such orders can average around $13 across various delivery platforms.
According to a press release, this change aims to establish a lasting shift in delivery pricing, moving away from the limited promotions frequently seen in the industry.

“The fees are annoying for everyone,” Clooney noted, expressing his alignment with the campaign’s message. He emphasized that, despite this being his first commercial project with Lanthimos, the experience mirrored working on one of the director’s films. “Nothing changed,” he stated. “He treats a 30-second spot the same way he treats a film.”
Describing the final product, Clooney referred to it as “a very short, two-minute Yorgos Lanthimos film,” adapted for the Super Bowl audience.
The ad will air during the third quarter of Super Bowl 2026 and is part of a larger Grubhub marketing campaign that will include outdoor advertising, digital initiatives, and special restaurant promotions throughout the game week.

Grubhub CEO Howard Migdal shared his thoughts on the campaign, stating, “For too long, ordering delivery has come with sticker shock,” adding that the company aims to return “hundreds of millions of dollars back into customers’ pockets.”
As the countdown to the game begins, Clooney hopes viewers will remember one simple takeaway: “A meal delivered.”
