Madi Diaz recently shared insights about her close friendship with fellow artist Kacey Musgraves, revealing how their bond has been strengthened over time. In an interview, Diaz characterized Musgraves as “a real girl’s girl” and expressed her admiration, saying, “Kacey’s such a real f—ing ride or die.”
The two artists initially met through mutual friends in the music industry but grew closer during the pandemic. Diaz, 39, emphasized that their relationship flourished in this unprecedented time, as they began to spend more time together. “I love Kacey. She will cut a bitch. You know what I mean?” Diaz added, showcasing the playful nature of their friendship.

Describing a memorable moment, Diaz recounted how Musgraves surprised her with confetti upon her return from a tour. “It was just the sweetest. She’s the sweetest,” Diaz reflected. Their outings often include early morning horseback rides as they take in sunrises together. “She’s kind of like my on-the-ground outdoor partner in crime,” Diaz remarked.
In 2023, Diaz and Musgraves collaborated on the song “Don’t Do Me Good,” which is featured on Diaz’s upcoming album Weird Faith. Diaz emphasized the importance of the connection they share, noting, “I always knew that ‘Don’t Do Me Good’ was going to be a duet, and then at some point it hit me that it should be with a friend rather than a romantic.” This approach highlights a desire for authentic camaraderie in her music, as she describes preferring to share a beer and conversation with friends over romantic ties.
Diaz thoughtfully reached out to Musgraves about collaborating on the track, aware of the mutual respect they have for each other’s artistic worlds. “It was really an interesting line to broach asking her, but she was just immediately like, ‘F—ing duh,'” Diaz recalled.
In total, the duo has written around six songs together, as Diaz believes that some songs need time to discern their final direction. Her latest album, Fatal Optimist, is currently available.
