Katy Perry Joins Trudeau on Diplomatic Visit to Japan
Katy Perry accompanied Justin Trudeau on a diplomatic trip to Japan this week, marking an important milestone in their relationship. On December 3, the pop star and the former Canadian Prime Minister met with former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his wife, Yuko. This was Perry’s first public engagement with Trudeau in a political context.
Kishida shared a photograph of the group gathered by a Christmas tree on social media, referring to Perry as Trudeau’s partner. In his post, he expressed delight over the continuity of their friendship, writing, "Former Canadian Prime Minister @JustinTrudeau visited Japan with his partner and joined my wife and me for lunch."
Reflecting on their relationship as leaders, Kishida noted their previous collaborations to strengthen bilateral ties, including the creation of the Japan-Canada Action Plan. "I am delighted that we continue to maintain this friendship in this way," he added.
Trudeau echoed Kishida’s sentiments when he reposted the former Prime Minister’s message, stating, "Great to see you @kishida230. Katy and I were so glad to have the chance to sit down with you and Yuko. Thank you, Fumio, for your friendship and your continued commitment to both the international rules-based order and to a better future for everyone."
Perry, 41, and Trudeau, 53, were first seen together publicly in July, shortly after both had experienced high-profile separations from previous partners. Their relationship has progressed, with a source recently revealing they are making holiday plans together.
This week’s meeting with Kishida and Yuko represents a significant blending of Perry’s pop star persona with the diplomatic world, having been initially cautious about stepping into the political domain.
Late last month, a source close to Perry indicated her focus would shift towards family as she prepares to conclude her touring schedule with a final performance in Abu Dhabi on December 7. The source remarked on the whirlwind nature of her year and highlighted her commitment to her daughter, Daisy Dove, whom she shares with ex-fiancé Orlando Bloom.
While Perry transitions into this new phase of her life, sources note that Trudeau continues to make efforts to support her as they navigate their relationship.
