Ethan Hill Inspires Brentwood to Victory Over Crossroads Despite His Illness
Brentwood Basketball Triumphs Over Crossroads Despite Illness Struggles
Brentwood’s Ethan Hill faced serious health challenges leading up to Monday night’s basketball match against Crossroads, seeking urgent care for an IV due to illness. Despite his condition, Hill played a pivotal role in Brentwood’s remarkable comeback, rallying from an 11-point deficit to secure a 70-60 victory.
At the game’s conclusion, Hill, who stands 6 feet 7 inches tall, thanked the exuberant student section whose cheers fueled the Eagles’ performance. “I feel horrible,” Hill admitted, resting on the team room floor afterward. “I’m so fatigued.”
Remarkably, Hill played the entire fourth quarter, sinking five consecutive free throws that contributed to Crossroads’ first loss in the Gold Coast League.
Junior guard AJ Okoh also shone brightly for Brentwood, finishing the game with 24 points. His dynamic play in the second half proved challenging for the Crossroads defense. “One of the best point guards in the country,” commented Brentwood coach Ryan Bailey. “He doesn’t back down from anyone.”
This victory marked a significant turnaround for Brentwood (22-3, 4-1), who suffered a disappointing 72-56 loss to Crossroads (14-11, 5-1) earlier this month. In front of a fired-up home crowd, the Eagles were intent on avenging that defeat, particularly against former player Shalen Sheppard.
The game was marked by heightened emotions, resulting in technical fouls for taunting against Brentwood players. Following a skirmish at the final buzzer, both Sheppard and Brentwood’s Ryan Howard were ejected. Crossroads saw strong performances from Evan Willis, who notched 16 points, and Sheppard, who contributed 14.
Despite trailing 32-23 at halftime, Brentwood rallied after an impassioned halftime speech from Bailey. “I was proud of how they fought,” he reflected. “The home crowd was phenomenal.” Augustus Sugarman played a crucial role in the comeback, sinking two three-pointers and two free throws in the final quarter. The matchup featured seven lead changes in the early moments of the fourth before Brentwood ultimately pulled ahead.
The victory solidifies Brentwood’s position in the league and sets the stage for an exciting season ahead.
