Newport Beach Sees Rise in Residential Burglaries in Hillside Areas
Police Issue Burglary Alert for Newport Beach Neighborhoods
Newport Beach police are alerting residents to a recent rise in residential burglaries, particularly targeting hillside homes adjacent to open spaces such as trails and golf courses.
According to the Newport Beach Police Department, multiple neighborhoods have experienced thefts, with a clear pattern in the targeted properties. Many of these homes were reportedly empty at the time of the break-ins.
Law enforcement officials noted that burglars have been gaining entry by climbing fences and using trees, patio furniture, and grills to access the backyards. Once inside the properties, they have typically shattered sliding glass doors or windows to gain entry.
The stolen items have included jewelry, watches, designer handbags, and clothing, with some thieves even forcing open safes located within the homes.
Police have identified a peak vulnerability period for homeowners, recommending heightened vigilance during weekends, especially between 5:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., shortly after sunset.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the Newport Beach Police Department at 949-644-3717.
