Jason Biggs Shares the Valuable Comedy Lesson He Learned from Eugene Levy on American Pie

American Pie 2, a defining film in the late-1990s and early-2000s wave of raunchy comedies, is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary later this year.

Released in 2001, the film followed Jim Levenstein, portrayed by Jason Biggs, and his friends as they reunited after their first year of college. They rent a beach house for one last summer filled with chaos, hookups, and awkward moments that reflect the challenges of growing up.

Despite its outrageous humor, the heart of the movie lies in the characters’ sincere attempts to navigate the complexities of adulthood beneath the shock value.

“A lesson that I’ve taken from the American Pie films, and especially from my brilliant costar and second dad, Eugene Levy, is to ground your performance,” Biggs told Parade in a recent interview. “It’s really about doing your best to stay connected to reality.”.

Reflecting on his experience over two decades later, Biggs noted that maintaining a grounded demeanor, even amid wild scenes, was crucial to the franchise’s success.

“No matter how heightened the circumstances are—there are obviously some crazy situations in American Pie—the goal was to keep it as restrained and realistic as possible. This approach allows for greater comedic risk elsewhere,” said the 47-year-old actor and now-director.

In a 2025 interview, Biggs expressed keen interest in returning for a potential American Pie 5 sequel.

“I’ve always said I would 100% be down to work with those people again and to play that character again. It’s one of the best experiences of my life, and I’m very proud of it,” he stated.

The philosophies Biggs learned early in his career remain influential as he approaches storytelling today, particularly in his latest project, Untitled Home Invasion Romance.

This comedic thriller features a man attempting to salvage his marriage by staging a fake break-in during a vacation, casting himself as the hero.

Despite the outrageous premise, Biggs asserts that the film ultimately emphasizes love and resilience. “The lesson here is that couples can overcome anything,” he explained. “If love can prevail after what these two have been through in the movie, then they can get through anything.”
