New Belgian Drama ‘Dust’ Explores Tech Visionaries Confronting Fraud Charges at Berlin Premiere
Belgian Film ‘Dust’ Explores Redemption Amid Scandal
In the upcoming drama Dust, Belgian actors Jan Hammenecker and Arieh Worthalter portray Luc and Geert, two tech visionaries facing impending ruin. The film reveals that a fraud scandal, which has long underpinned their professional success, will be exposed to the media within 24 hours, jeopardizing both their company and reputations.
Confronted with the possibility of jail time, the two characters embark on separate journeys toward redemption. As they seek atonement from estranged investors and family members, they confront the true essence of what matters in life.
Dust marks the second feature film for director Joris Blondé, following his debut, The Best of Dorien B., which explores a woman’s seemingly perfect life unravelling after discovering her mother’s affair, compounded by suspicions regarding her husband’s relationship with a female colleague.
Prior to directing features, Blondé crafted short films such as Mister Frits, Buiten Adem, and Dura, and served as casting editor on notable works like Felix van Groeningen’s The Misfortunates and The Broken Circle Breakdown.
The film is produced by Dries Phlypo, known for The Wolf, the Fox and the Leopard and Reedland, through his Ghent-based company A Private View. He collaborated with Giorgos Karnavos from Heretic in Greece, along with James Watson and Mikko Makela from UK- and Finland-based Betes Sauvages, and Joanna Szymanska and Krystyna Kantor from Poland’s Shipsboy.
Screenwriter Angelo Tijssens, who previously contributed to Lukas Dhont’s Girl, takes on an executive producer role alongside Level K CEO Tine Klint and Rich Simpson from London’s Hijack Capital.
Dust has garnered additional support from several organizations, including the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF), Screen Flanders, Casa Kafa Pictures, Eurimages, Creative Europe Media, the Polish Film Institute, Timeless Studio, and the Hellenic Film & Audiovisual Center – Creative Greece, as well as the BFI Global Screen Fund.
International sales for the film are being handled by Level K, while Kinepolis Film Distribution is set to release Dust in Belgium on February 25.
