Diarmaid Murtagh from ‘Outlander’ and ‘The Tourist’ Joins DC’s ‘Supergirl’ as a Space Pirate Villain
Irish Actor Diarmaid Murtagh Joins the Cast of DC’s Supergirl
Irish actor Diarmaid Murtagh, recognized for his roles in popular series such as Outlander, The Tourist, and Vikings, will take on a new role this summer as one of the antagonists in DC’s upcoming film, Supergirl.
Murtagh will portray Drom Baxton, the second-in-command of a group known as The Brigands, led by the film’s primary villain, Krem Of The Yellow Hills, played by Matthias Schoenaerts. This ruthless band of space pirates and human traffickers serves as the film’s main antagonists.
Set for release in June, Supergirl explores the origin story of Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El, portrayed by Milly Alcock, as she embarks on her journey to Earth. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the film boasts an ensemble cast that includes Eve Ridley, Emily Beecham, David Corenswet, David Krumholtz, and Jason Momoa.
The film draws inspiration from Tom King’s 2022 comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, illustrated by Bilquis Evely. The screenplay adaptation for the big screen was crafted by Ana Nogueira. In the comic, Supergirl partners with a young alien named Knolle to seek revenge on Krem of the Yellow Hills after he murders Knolle’s father, a storyline that fans have likened to the classic John Wayne film, True Grit.
Murtagh is well-known for his portrayal of William Buck Mackenzie in Starz’s acclaimed series Outlander and as Donal McDonnell in HBO Max’s drama The Tourist. He also had a role as Leif in Vikings. Additionally, he is involved in an upcoming action-thriller film titled The Butler, where he stars alongside Jean Reno.
He is represented by Independent Talent Group.
