PlayersTV Acquires Expectation Media and Welcomes Michele Ghee as New President
PlayersTV Expands Leadership with Acquisition of Expectant Media
PlayersTV, a streaming service focused on sports stars, has announced the acquisition of Michele Ghee’s tech and content agency, Expectant Media. Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.
As part of this transition, Ghee will take on the role of President of PlayersTV effective immediately. She has served on the PlayersTV board for the past two years, where her input has been instrumental.
The company plans to leverage Ghee’s expertise in marketing, experiential branding, and culture to enhance its media ecosystem, which encompasses streaming video, news, and engaging features. According to a statement released by PlayersTV, the organization is poised to introduce “live community-driven moments with athletes and fans” in the near future.
Further announcements concerning original programming, distribution, and partnerships will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Ghee brings nearly 30 years of experience in the media and entertainment industry, having held senior roles at prominent organizations such as The Weather Channel, A+E, CNN, and BET.
Deron Guidrey, co-CEO and co-founder of PlayersTV, expressed enthusiasm for Ghee’s appointment: “Michele has been a trusted member of our board for the past two years. We saw immense value in what she’s built across media, content, and activation to support our growing flywheel. She is a proven leader in advancing equity across content and distribution, and we look forward to the high-caliber impact she will have on our organization and with our growing stable of premium partners.”
Guidrey further emphasized the importance of Ghee’s role within the context of inclusivity in media ownership, stating, “At a time when women are disproportionately excluded from ownership and leaving the media industry, Ghee’s appointment reflects PlayersTV’s commitment to inclusive ownership and long-term value creation.”
Before founding Expectant Media, Ghee held significant positions at Essence Communications, where she was Chief Content Officer, and at Ebony. Throughout her career, she has managed over $1 billion in revenue and ascended to a senior vice president role at Paramount’s BET.
In her statement, Ghee remarked, “PlayersTV has built something fundamentally different by centering ownership, distribution, and community around athletes and their fans. This next chapter is about scaling the model, doubling down on their investment in female-athlete-led content and distribution. We’re connecting premium athlete-led lifestyle and culture content with real-world experiences that create lasting value for athletes, partners, and fans alike.”
PlayersTV is supported by a network of over 3,000 fan-owners and more than 70 athlete investors, including NBA All-Star Chris Paul, who commented on Ghee’s leadership potential. “I believe in leading by example, and Michele has proven she is able to do just that. Her wealth of experience will help guide PlayersTV in its era of growth.”
