UCLA Women’s Basketball Claims 11th Straight Victory Against Maryland
In a commanding performance, the UCLA women’s basketball team triumphed over No. 12 Maryland with a score of 97-67 Sunday afternoon at Pauley Pavilion. This victory follows an intense practice led by head coach Cori Close just two days prior, demonstrating the team’s resilience.
Ranked third overall, the Bruins now hold a record of 17-1, including a perfect 7-0 in Big Ten play. The team displayed a balanced offensive strategy, spearheaded by Gabriela Jaquez, who amassed 22 points on an impressive 10 of 13 shooting. Charlisse Leger-Walker contributed significantly as well, notching 17 points, nine rebounds, eight assists, and showcasing an exceptional no-look pass to Jaquez in the fourth quarter. Additional contributions came from Gianna Kneepkens with 16 points, Angela Dugalic with 12 points, and Lauren Betts, who recorded 11 points and five blocks. Sienna Betts added nine points, while Kiki Rice delivered six assists.
This latest victory keeps UCLA in close pursuit of the top-ranked and undefeated Connecticut, which did not compete on Sunday, and No. 2 South Carolina, who defeated Coppin State 90-48 earlier in the day. The Bruins have now won 11 consecutive games, recovering from their only loss of the season to No. 4 Texas on November 26 in Las Vegas.
