Netflix Shares Exciting New Trailer for the Rebooted Star Search Talent Show Before Its Live Premiere
Netflix is set to premiere its most ambitious reality competition series to date next week.
The streaming service will launch a reboot of Star Search live on Tuesday, January 20, at 9 PM ET. This five-week event will feature new episodes airing on both Tuesdays and Wednesdays, culminating in a live finale.
“The greatest talent competition is back,” announced host Anthony Anderson in a recently released trailer.
Grammy-nominated artist Jelly Roll, actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, and television personality Chrissy Teigen will co-host the series, which originally aired from 1983 to 1995 and was famously led by Ed McMahon.
The competition will showcase a diverse lineup of singers, dancers, comedians, and magicians vying to join the ranks of past contestants who have achieved fame, including Brad Garrett, Billy Porter, and Loni Love. Notable stars such as Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Dave Chappelle, and Adam Sandler all appeared on the show before rising to stardom.
A distinctive feature of this revival is the real-time voting mechanism, which allows viewers to influence the progress of contestants. Audiences can cast their votes using their remotes or by tapping the screen on the Netflix mobile app.
The series is produced by Collins alongside Taraji P. Henson, who played a pivotal role in launching the project in collaboration with Village Roadshow, the original owner of the intellectual property. Executive producers include former Village Roadshow executive Steve Mosko, along with Dionne Harmon, Madison Merritt, and Elaine Metaxas.
Jason Raff, known for his work on America’s Got Talent, and David Friedman, former producer of NBC’s Bring the Funny, will serve as showrunners.
