Kate Middleton Shows How to Stylishly Wear Statement Brooches This Winter
The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, made a striking entrance at Heathrow Airport in royal blue on Wednesday, as she and her husband greeted President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender, marking the start of the German state visit to London. Middleton’s choice of attire was once again notable for its symbolism; she wore a bespoke blue Alexander McQueen coat that she last showcased on Christmas Day in 2023.
To complement her distinguished look, the Princess paired the tailored coat with a matching Juliette Millinery fascinator and adorned her ears with Princess Diana’s diamond and sapphire drop earrings, a favorite accessory she has worn multiple times.

Notably, it was her dazzling diamond brooch that captured the attention of royal observers. Affixed discreetly to her lapel was Queen Alexandra’s Three Feathers Brooch, a piece traditionally worn by the woman married to the Prince of Wales. This exquisite brooch features a design that mimics the heraldic badge of the Prince of Wales, complete with a trio of ostrich feathers encircled by a coronet, and accented with small rubies and emeralds, all set within a beautiful cluster of diamonds.
Crafted in 1863 by Garrard as a wedding gift for Princess Alexandra of Denmark, the brooch is steeped in history. It was presented to her as part of a suite of jewels, which included a leek motif brooch and emerald drop earrings, acquired through the efforts of the Ladies of North Wales.

Over the past fifty years, the Three Feathers Brooch has been a cherished accessory for the Princesses of Wales. Princess Diana often wore it during her marriage to Charles, frequently styling it as a necklace. Camilla also donned the brooch, complete with its emerald pendant, at a 2006 film premiere.
Kate Middleton first wore the brooch in November 2022, shortly after becoming the Princess of Wales, during a state visit with the President of South Africa. Since then, she has sported it on numerous significant occasions, including the 2023 Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey and during President Donald Trump’s second state visit to Windsor Castle in September.

As part of their diplomatic duties, Prince William and Kate were the first members of the royal family to meet the German delegation before their formal welcome by King Charles and Queen Camilla at the Royal Dais on Datchet Road. While the visit features numerous engagements, the state banquet at Windsor Castle is poised to be a highlight, offering the royal family a chance to showcase their most stunning jewels. Royal enthusiasts will undoubtedly anticipate the unveiling of dazzling necklaces, tiaras, and earrings during this grand affair.
