While Garfield did not attend the 2026 Golden Globes on January 11, he recently discussed his notable moment from the 2025 ceremony when he garnered attention for putting on glasses while presenting an award.
In an October 2025 conversation with MTV journalist Josh Horowitz, Garfield reflected on the unexpected stir created by his actions at the awards show. He initially downplayed his impact, stating, “everyone else was projecting something entirely different.”
As he revisited the incident, he described being surrounded by esteemed peers and feeling an overwhelming sense of anxiety. “You’re surrounded by your peers and other people you admire and have admired since you were a child,” he explained, noting that he experienced “unbridled terror” just before presenting the award for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy alongside Kerry Washington.
Garfield remembered frantically thinking, “Oh f—. I can’t actually see the teleprompter. Did I bring my glasses? Yes, they’re in my right hand. Okay, great, now I can see.”

His internal dialogue continued as he reflected on his attire, stating, “Oh s—, this shirt is too open. I do not want to give people this much of my flesh,” indicating his discomfort with the outfit he chose for the gala. Despite grappling with these intrusive thoughts, he noted how they led to an unintended perception of sexiness, humorously suggesting that “neurosis is, I guess, kinda sexy ultimately.” At the 2025 ceremony, he wore a dark green Gucci suit paired with a matching button-down shirt, which, as he mentioned, had the first few buttons unfastened, revealing more than he had anticipated.
