New TV Adaptations of ‘Lord Of The Flies’ and ‘The House Of The Spirits’ Coming to Berlinale
Berlinale to Feature Premieres of ‘Lord of the Flies’ and ‘The House of the Spirits’
Jack Thorne’s adaptation of Lord of the Flies and Isabel Allende’s The House of the Spirits will premiere at the Berlinale TV series sidebar in Berlin. Both series are generating significant anticipation from audiences and industry professionals alike.
Lord of the Flies, set to launch later this year on the BBC and Stan, will enjoy its European premiere at the festival. In contrast, Allende’s adaptation for Prime Video will have its world premiere in the German capital in the coming weeks.
These high-profile series join a lineup that includes Germany’s House of Yang, HBO Max Spain’s Ravalear, the documentary Heysel 85, and another BBC production, Mint, directed by Charlotte Regan. Ravalear is particularly noteworthy for its setting in Barcelona’s Raval neighborhood, focusing on a family-run restaurant facing eviction after an investment fund acquires the building.
Lord of the Flies represents one of the BBC’s most ambitious adaptations in recent memory. Based on William Golding’s iconic novel, it explores the harrowing descent into chaos faced by a group of children stranded on an island. Conversely, The House of the Spirits, derived from Allende’s acclaimed work, chronicles the struggles and resilience of three generations of the Trueba women in a conservative South American nation. This story was previously adapted into a film in 1993, directed by Bille August.
In addition to these series, the Berlinale will also showcase films such as Charli XCX’s The Moment and Sunny Dancer, featuring Bella Ramsey and Neil Patrick Harris, further enriching the festival’s diverse offerings.
