Michelle Williams Signs On for Damien Chazelle’s Upcoming Film
Michelle Williams Joins Damien Chazelle’s New Untitled Drama
In a noteworthy addition to the film industry, Michelle Williams has joined the cast of Damien Chazelle’s upcoming untitled drama, which also features Cillian Murphy and Daniel Craig. Chazelle will direct the film, having penned the script, and will produce it alongside Olivia Hamilton under the Wild Chickens Productions banner. Paramount Pictures is set to handle distribution.
While details remain largely under wraps, insider reports suggest the film may be set within a prison environment.
Production is anticipated to commence later this year. Previously, Chazelle had considered multiple projects, including a biopic about Evel Knievel, with Leonardo DiCaprio potentially starring. However, this project was postponed, allowing Chazelle to redirect his focus to the prison drama. Following commitments from Murphy and Craig, the project gained momentum as Chazelle began recruiting additional talent for supporting roles. The success of previous films such as Whiplash and La La Land has consistently attracted interest from A-list actors, and Williams’s recent casting occurred just before the holiday season.
Williams is fresh off a Golden Globe victory for Best Female Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for her acclaimed role in Dying for Sex, which also garnered her an Emmy nomination. In addition, she portrayed Mitzi Fableman, a character inspired by Steven Spielberg’s mother, in The Fabelmans (2022), earning both a Golden Globe nomination and her fifth Academy Award nomination.
She is represented by CAA and attorney John LaViotte.
