Sergio Jiménez, 37, Dies During Livestreamed Drug Challenge
Sergio Jiménez, a Spanish streamer, died during a private New Year’s Eve livestream after allegedly consuming drugs for monetary gain. The tragic event raises significant concerns about the dangers of online streaming culture and the pressure it exerts on content creators.
Reports from Spanish media, including El País and El Periódico, indicate that Jiménez, known on Kick and Twitch as "Sancho" or "Sssanchopanza," was participating in a series of extreme challenges that included the consumption of cocaine and alcohol. He gained attention in October when he featured prominently in videos produced by Simón Pérez, a fellow streamer known for behavior involving drug use on camera.
On January 4, Pérez claimed in a livestream that Jiménez consumed six grams of cocaine on the night of his death. He also stated he had communicated with Jiménez’s brother, who confirmed that the streamer had been drinking whiskey during his final broadcast.
The Mossos d’Esquadra, the police force of Catalonia, has initiated an investigation into Jiménez’s death, ordering an autopsy to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

Although no official statement has been made by Mossos d’Esquadra, the organization shared a video on its social media platforms on January 6, urging the public to refrain from engaging in viral challenges that may jeopardize their safety. An officer emphasized the potential consequences of such trends, which could lead to intoxication, mental health issues, and damaging digital footprints affecting employment and academic prospects.
This incident comes just months after the death of another online personality, French streamer Jean Pormanove, who died in August under similar circumstances. His death prompted scrutiny of the streaming platform Kick, raising questions about the responsibility of these platforms in moderating harmful content.
An autopsy eventually determined that Pormanove’s death was not linked to foul play or any third-party involvement, but the tragic pattern remains alarming as authorities continue to monitor the streaming landscape for dangerous behaviors among creators.
