NEED TO KNOW
- Amy Schumer posted an Instagram Reel on Monday, Dec. 1, addressing comments about her weight loss journey.
- The actress revealed she has lost 50 lbs., stating it was “to survive” rather than “to look hot.”
- Since her weight loss, Schumer has described being “pain free.”
Amy Schumer continues to discuss the health factors influencing her weight loss.
On December 1, the 44-year-old actress shared an Instagram Reel filmed by her six-year-old son, Gene, whom she shares with her husband, Chris Fischer. The video captures Schumer lounging at home, alongside glimpses of her family’s environment. It also features text addressing “questions” regarding her weight loss.
In her post, Schumer clarified that she does not use Botox or fillers, emphasizing that her weight loss exceeded the reported 30 lbs., amounting to 50 lbs. “Not to look hot which does feel fun and temporary,” she explained. “I did it to survive.”
In referencing her struggles, Schumer mentioned a disease leading to significant facial swelling, suggesting a link to her previous diagnosis of Cushing syndrome. “I had a disease that makes your face extremely puffy that can kill you, but the internet caught it, and the disease has cleared,” she noted.
Cushing syndrome, according to the Mayo Clinic, involves an excess of cortisol, the primary stress hormone. Symptoms may include facial puffiness, trunk weight gain, high blood pressure, and increased stretch marks.

“Sorry for whatever feeling it’s giving you that I lost that weight,” she continued, explaining that she has undergone plastic surgery “over the years” and currently uses the medication Mounjaro. “Sorry to anyone that lets down.”
Schumer shared that she now feels “pain free” and is able to play tag with Gene.
Additionally, she discussed her experience with perimenopause, which she first revealed in February 2024, alongside her endometriosis diagnosis. “Happy to share if anyone has any questions about how I’m looking or feeling or where I am in my perimenopause process,” she offered.
Perimenopause is characterized by decreased estrogen levels before menopause and can cause symptoms like hot flashes and irregular periods, a transition that can last several years, as explained by the Cleveland Clinic.
Schumer concluded her post by addressing speculation about her marriage. “Whatever ends up happening with Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or autism,” she stated, referring to her husband’s autism diagnosis. “Fingers crossed we can make it through; he’s the best.”

In November, sources indicated that Schumer and Fischer remain committed to their relationship amid ongoing marriage speculation.
“They’re privately working through normal issues that couples in long-term marriages have,” a source noted, affirming their commitment to one another.
This is not the first instance Schumer has addressed marriage speculations. In a November 6 Instagram Story, she shared a picture of New York City, noting, “And Chris and I are still married” to clarify her relationship status.
Schumer has also commented on her weight loss journey previously, sharing in October that she was “feeling strong” and enjoying her appearance, but emphasized that it “is all about how you feel.”
