Cher Playfully Suggests Kristen Bell Deserves Better Than Dax Shepard: ‘She’s Clearly the Better Half’

Dax Shepard and Cher share a common view: Kristen Bell is deserving of the best.
During an episode of his podcast, Armchair Expert, released on January 5, Shepard playfully asked Cher who she believed would make a better partner for his wife. “I know you think she could do better,” he said, prompting Bell, who joined the conversation, to blush. “Who would be your pick?”
Cher responded by expressing her faith in Bell, stating, “The truth is, I trust her.” She added, addressing Shepard, “So, you must have something that I don’t see. And you seem like a good dad.”
The lighthearted exchange followed Shepard’s reflections on overcoming his past substance abuse issues and his gratitude for being married to Bell, with whom he shares two daughters. Cher quipped, “You’re lucky. She’s definitely the better half.”
Shepard acknowledged this sentiment, stating, “I understand, nobody’s good enough for her.” Bell then defended her husband, emphasizing, “There’s a lot to this man … Trust me, he’s a slow burn, but you’re gonna learn to love him. He’s almost too good for me.”
The trio unanimously agreed on one principle: a husband’s support of his wife’s success enhances his appeal. “I’ll tell you one thing you should like about me,” Shepard told Cher. “I’m not threatened by [Kristen] shining. I love it. The shinier she gets, the better.”
Cher responded in kind, referencing her boyfriend, rapper Alexander “AE” Edwards: “The more I shine, the more he has fun.”
Cher’s appearance on the podcast precedes the launch of the second part of her memoir series, anticipated later this year. The first installment, Cher: The Memoir, debuted in November 2024.
This initial book explores Cher’s complex relationship with her ex-husband, Sonny Bono, as well as her efforts to maintain amicable relations after their separation—though she humorously noted this was “not with his wife.”
Cher cheekily remarked about Mary Bono, saying, “No, because she’s trying to take all my money,” referencing the ongoing legal battle surrounding Sonny & Cher royalties. “It’s been fascinating.”
