Edie Falco Discusses ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ in Exclusive Interview
In theaters now, Edie Falco stars in ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash,’ where she portrays the antagonist General Ardmore. In an exclusive interview, she shared insights about the film and her collaboration with renowned director James Cameron.
Falco described her experience working on the film as a significant honor, saying, "It’s another whole world. And it’s kind of a great honor to be a part of the stuff that James Cameron imagines and makes happen. He’s quite astonishing in that regard."
The 62-year-old actress attended the New York City screening for the fourth season of Mayor of Kingstown, where she expressed her excitement about the project. "He’s invented machines and [new] ways of shooting, and to be invited to be a part of that, I’m very lucky," she added.
When discussing Cameron, 71, Falco noted his unique approach, calling it “refreshing.” She observed, “He’s like a little kid, you know? He’s got all kinds of ideas and [curiosity], and he has the sort of excitement about making a story that you do when you first start out. And that was very refreshing.”
While specifics about the script remain under wraps, Cameron previously hinted at thematic elements related to fire and the film’s cultural aspects. He stated, "Fire has a symbolic purpose in the film, and there’s a culture that is specifically around that concept."
Cameron has teased audiences with glimpses of what to expect in upcoming installments, revealing that audiences will encounter the "Ash People." “The fire will be represented by the ‘Ash People.’ I want to show the Na’vi from another angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides,” he noted. The director added, “You’re going to meet two completely new cultures in the next film.”
Falco stars alongside Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, and newcomer Oona Chaplin, who plays Varang, the leader of the Ash People, described as "an aggressive, volcanic race" of Na’vi.
‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ is currently in theaters.
