Dominic McLaughlin Shares His Thoughts on Daniel Radcliffe’s Letter: “It Was Incredible”
Dominic McLaughlin Recalls Exciting Letter from Daniel Radcliffe During Train Ride
Dominic McLaughlin, the lead of HBO’s forthcoming adaptation of the Harry Potter series, recently shared an unforgettable moment when he received a letter from actor Daniel Radcliffe.
McLaughlin, set to portray the iconic wizard, was on a train heading home to Glasgow when the letter was handed to him. "It was insane," he reflected during an interview on the BBC’s Saturday Mash-Up! Live.
"My Dad tapped me on the train and just gave me this letter. I read it and then got to the bottom, and it said, ‘Dan R.’ I was going mad, but I had to [keep cool]. I was on the train," he recounted.
Regarding the progress of filming, McLaughlin said, "It’s going amazing, it’s going really well. I’ve made good friends with everyone; it’s great to be there."
Radcliffe, who portrayed Harry Potter in the original film series, had expressed his feelings about McLaughlin and the new cast last month, stating he had written encouraging words for the young actor. "I just see these pictures of him and the other kids and I just want to hug them," Radcliffe shared. He reminisced about his own youth, noting, "It’s crazy I was doing that at that age. But it’s also incredibly sweet; I hope they’re having a great time."
McLaughlin was selected for the role of Harry Potter in May, following a massive audition process that attracted 32,000 young hopefuls for the roles of Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton have secured the other two lead roles.
In addition to his work on the Harry Potter series, McLaughlin appeared on Saturday Mash-Up! Live to promote the new CBBC series Gifted, which tells the story of a group of Scottish teenagers who discover they each possess extraordinary powers.
