Avatar: Fire and Ash Rakes in Over $760 Million Globally, Boosting Franchise to $6 Billion; Zootopia 2 Exceeds $1 Billion Overseas; Wicked 2 Surpasses $500 Million; Anaconda and SpongeBob Debut Strongly at International Box Office
Refresh for latest: James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash has generated an estimated $760.4 million globally as of Sunday. This installment has achieved $542.7 million from the international box office.
In its second weekend, the sci-fi threequel added $181.2 million overseas, facing only a 25% decline in revenue (15% when excluding China), alongside growth in several key markets.
Currently, the film ranks as the fifth-highest global release from the Motion Picture Association for 2025, while the collective gross of the Avatar franchise has surpassed $6 billion worldwide.
Fire and Ash is nearing the $100 million mark in China, currently at $99.6 million. It will become only the second Hollywood film to achieve this milestone in the market this year, following Disney’s own Zootopia 2.

In relation to the latter, Zootopia 2 has now grossed $1.42 billion globally, with $1.1 billion coming from overseas markets. This positions Zootopia 2 as the first studio film of 2025 to surpass $1 billion at the international box office.
Z2 is also leading as the top global release of 2025 and has achieved several milestones: it is now the third highest-grossing studio animated film worldwide and the most successful Hollywood animated movie internationally. Its fifth weekend contributed an additional $67.9 million across all overseas markets, registering a solid 15% overall decline (down just 1% excluding China), with five major markets showing growth from the previous frame.
In other weekend highlights, Paramount’s The SpongeBob Movie: Search for Squarepants debuted with $22.1 million internationally in 76% of offshore markets, bringing its global total to $60.3 million. Universal’s Wicked: For Good surpassed $500 million globally, reaching $504 million with a minor 17% decline overseas and an increase domestically. Additionally, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 crossed $100 million internationally.
In a notable surprise, Sony’s Anaconda, featuring Jack Black and Paul Rudd, opened with $20 million across 58 overseas markets, marking the highest international debut for a comedy since 2013, adjusted for today’s exchange rates. Its global total stands at $43.7 million.
