Braxton Keith Shares His Hope to Be Asked About His Connection to Toby Keith

Braxton Keith takes pride in sharing a surname with the late country music star Toby Keith.
During his recent appearance on the Whiskey Riff Raff podcast, Braxton explained that many people inquire about a familial connection to the “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” artist.
“A lot of people do ask if I’m related to Toby Keith,” the 25-year-old said, recounting a conversation with a neighbor shortly after moving to San Angelo, Texas. “They were like, ‘Are you Toby Keith’s son?’ I was like, ‘No, I wish.’”
When asked if such questions trouble him, Braxton noted he finds it an honor instead.
“[I don’t get asked] as much as I wish people asked. That’s funny though. I wish I was,” he added.
Toby Keith, known for hits like “Red Solo Cup,” succumbed to stomach cancer in February 2024 at the age of 62.
In February 2025, Keith’s family marked the one-year anniversary of his passing on social media, sharing a tribute that resonated with fans.
“We can’t believe it’s been a year since the world lost Toby. We have a hole in our heart and our lives. The love and support from the community that Toby created has left us all thankful and grateful,” the tribute read.
The post also emphasized the lasting legacy Toby left behind, encouraging followers to celebrate his music, stating, “A toast to a life well lived.”
Earlier this year, Braxton made headlines after he abruptly curtailed a performance due to unruly behavior from fans.

“Y’all, I know that most of y’all are behaving yourselves tonight,” Braxton addressed fans before exiting the stage, referencing unruly audience behavior. “But there’s a bunch of people up here that are having a good time, and then there’s a bunch of beer-throwing.”
“Listen, I don’t come to any of y’all’s jobs and do anything like that to y’all,” he remarked, departing the stage. “So until y’all can learn some concert etiquette, my name is Braxton Keith. Thank y’all for coming out to Ardmore, Oklahoma.”
The event was part of his ongoing This Ain’t My First Tour, which concluded on December 5 in Las Vegas. Braxton plans to kick off a new leg of the tour, titled This Ain’t My First Tour Tour Continued…, on January 3.
