Matthew McConaughey and Zoe Saldaña in Talks for Netflix Film ‘Positano’
Matthew McConaughey and Zoe Saldaña are in negotiations to star in the upcoming Netflix film Positano. Directed by Daniel Roher, known for his work on Tuner, the script is penned by Alessandro Tanaka and Brian Gatewood, while Working Title founders Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan will produce the film.
While specific plot details remain undisclosed, the film is described as a romantic caper set in the picturesque Italian town of Positano. Amelia Granger will serve as executive producer alongside Tanaka and Gatewood.
The project gained momentum as Working Title acquired the script after Tanaka and Gatewood took it to market. Roher joined the team shortly after, and once McConaughey and Saldaña expressed interest, Netflix swiftly secured the package, planning to expedite production pending finalized deals.
McConaughey recently made a successful return to acting in the Apple thriller The Lost Bus. His performance as a heroic school bus driver during the 2018 Paradise, California fires garnered significant acclaim at the Toronto Film Festival.
Positano also brings Saldaña back to Netflix following her Best Supporting Actress win for Emilia Pér in March. She will next appear in James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, which opens globally this weekend.
Roher, celebrated for his 2022 documentary Navalny, which won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, is expanding his repertoire with this narrative project. His debut feature, Tuner, premiered at the Telluride Film Festival and received positive reviews at TIFF.
For this project, McConaughey is represented by WME and Yorn Levine Barnes, while Saldaña is repped by CAA, LBI Entertainment, and Yorn Levine Barnes. Roher is represented by UTA and Gang Tyre Ramer, and Tanaka and Gatewood are backed by UTA, Entertainment 360, and Hansen Jacobson Teller.
