Murder Suspect Omar Alexander Cardenas Added to FBI’s “10 Most Wanted” List
The FBI and the Los Angeles Police Department have announced a $1 million reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Omar Alexander Cardenas, who is wanted in connection with a fatal shooting outside a barber shop in Sylmar in 2019.
At 30 years old, Cardenas now appears on the FBI’s “10 Most Wanted Fugitives” list. According to reports, he allegedly discharged a semi-automatic handgun on August 15, 2019, targeting an unidentified victim outside a large outdoor shopping center. The shooting resulted in the victim suffering a fatal head injury.
This increased reward was revealed during a Tuesday morning news conference featuring Akil Davis, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office, and LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell. They provided details surrounding the ongoing search for Cardenas.
Officials noted that Cardenas was charged with murder, and a warrant for his arrest was issued on April 3, 2020. Subsequently, he was also charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, prompting a federal warrant to be issued on September 2, 2021.
Authorities have warned that Cardenas should be considered armed and dangerous. He is described as standing between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-7 and weighing between 240 and 300 pounds. Cardenas has dark brown hair, brown eyes, and is often seen with a beard and wearing prescription eyeglasses.
